About Work-Study Jobs


Work-study jobs are on-campus jobs reserved for students with a work-study grant. These are regular jobs. You must work to receive your monthly paycheck. In order to be eligible for these jobs, you must complete the FAFSA, and be awarded work-study.

Work-study is given out first come, first served basis, so you must apply early in order to be eligible. For more information on applying, contact the Financial Aid Office, Taggart Student Center, Room 106 or call (435) 797-0173.


To apply for a work-study job:


1. Get the job number from the work-study job board, an employer or from the Website (www.usu.edu/studemp/). (A work-study job number has the following format: AA-0000.)
2. Print your own referral on-line or take the job number to the Student Employment Desk, (located in the Financial Aid Office, Taggart Student Center, Room 106).
3. You will print a referral that will give you the information on how to apply for the job.
4. If you are hired, the employer will send you back to the Student Employment Office to get a Control Card and the other necessary hiring paperwork.
**Note: If you know that you have been hired before you go to the Student Employment Office, ask for the Control Card the first time into the Office.


To post Work-Study jobs:


Work-study jobs are on-campus jobs that are reserved for students with a work-study grant. The department pays 25% and the work-study grant pays 75%.

1. Work-study employer applications are mailed to supervisors each spring. If you need one, you can get it on-line at www.usu.edu/studemp/forms.htm.
2. The forms will be sent to accounting and you will receive a printout with your job number (in the following format: AA00-00), job title and account number.
3. Keep a record of the job number. You can call the Student Employment Office and make any changes necessary to the job. This process must be completed each spring, so that new account numbers can be assigned.
4. Contact the person that you hired and with them complete the following paperwork: I9, W-4, and the Control Card. The Payroll Direct Deposit Form is optional. All of these forms, except the control card are available on-line.
NOTE: If you have employed the student before, they will still need a new control card and STED form at the beginning of each school year.
